The first step when applying veneers is to shave off a small amount of the tooth enamel on any tooth that is set to receive treatment. This helps to make space for the new veneers. Then, an etching solution is applied to the teeth as a way of roughening their outer surfaces so that the veneers can bond more easily. The veneers are then applied to the surface of the teeth and secured using a dental adhesive. To complete the procedure, the patient will be given helpful instructions regarding the proper care for their new veneers.
