MEET THE DOCTORS

Dr. Malek Knightdale, Zebulon, Cary, Clayton, Benson, NCDr. Malek

Dr. Malek was raised in Raleigh, NC where he attended Millbrook High School.  After his high school graduation in 1985, he continued his education at North Carolina State University where he received his undergraduate degree in 1990, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1999 from the UNC Chapel Hill School of Dentistry. He is an active member of the North Carolina Dental Society and the Raleigh/ Wake County Dental Society. Dr. Malek has been practicing in Knightdale, NC since November of 2001.

So my staff and I go out of our way to make your visits comfortable, from offering satellite TV to chair massages in the exam rooms, extreme attention to cleanliness and sterilization techniques and most important, a friendly atmosphere and a gentle touch.”

Dr. Malek enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. His hobbies are fishing, golf, soccer, reading, traveling, billiards and cars.

Dr. Knight Knightdale, Zebulon, Cary, Clayton, Benson, NCDr. Knight

Dr. Mary Knight received her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1994 in Dental Hygiene. She then received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 2000 also at the University of Chapel Hill. Dr. Malek and Dr. Knight have been in practice together since 2001 beginning with the Planter’s Walk location in Knightdale.

Dr. Knight is very active in the local Dental Community. She is a member of the American Dental Association, North Carolina Dental Society, Raleigh/ Wake County Dental Society, Seattle Study Club and Delta Sigma Delta. Dr. Knight has also been involved in the following Research projects and presentations: Sealant Study, Drs. Al Wilder/Ed Swift, Department of Operative Dentistry, Efficiency of Vital Tooth Bleaching, Drs. Leonard/Garland, International Association for Dental Research.

Dr. Knight enjoys spending time with her husband and three children. Her hobbies include reading, hiking and traveling.

Dr. Sonner Knightdale, Zebulon, Cary, Clayton, Benson, NCDr. Sonner

Dr. Sonner was born and raised in Raleigh, NC and attended both UNC Wilmington and North Carolina State University. She received her undergraduate degree from NCSU in 1999 with high honors, obtaining a BS in Biological Sciences. During college she supported research staff at NIEHS and performed an independent study focusing on Diabetes.

She is also a graduate of UNC Dental School. She continued her dental education following dental school by attending a residency program at Fayetteville VA Medical Center. Here she gained skill in treating medically compromised and geriatric patients, as well as learned advanced surgery techniques and surgical implant placement.
She serves on her local dental society executive board as community service chair and serves on the Eastern Community Advisory Board for Medial Security. She was also recently appointed as the PACE chairwoman for the Academy of General Dentistry. She is passionate about organized dentistry and volunteers much of her time participating in legislature events promoting dentistry.

Dr. Sonner has a best friend and husband, Jonathan Boling, who is a financial analyst for SAS.

Dr. Wells Knightdale, Zebulon, Cary, Clayton, Benson, NCDr. Wells

Dr. Wells is a North Carolina native who grew up in the Pinehurst area and has spent the past 10 years studying and practicing dentistry in Chapel Hill. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she completed both her Bachelor of Science in Biology and her Doctor of Dental Surgery, graduating with honors. She is actively involved in local, state, and regional societies maintaining membership with the American Dental Association, American Academy of General Dentistry, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, American Society of Anesthesiology, and American Association of Women Dentists.

She is a member of North Carolina Dental Society and is the Vice President of the Orange County Dental Society. She also spends time in several civic and social organizations such as the Cary Junior Women’s Club and Psi Omega National Dental Fraternity.

In addition, Dr. Wells had the honor of being asked to join the faculty of the UNC Dentistry. She genuinely enjoys her part-time position in the Prosthetic Department helping the dentists of tomorrow further their education.

Dr. Wells is happily married to Dr. Andrew Wells, who is a Raleigh Orthodontist. They enjoy spending time as a family at Lake Hyco with their two sons, Ashton and Arison.

Dr. Linda Shafik Knightdale, Zebulon, Cary, Clayton, Benson, NCDr. Linda Shafik

Dr. Linda Shafik was born in Iraq, where she was raised and later met her husband, while attending dental school in Iraq.  From 1984-1999, Linda practiced dentistry and was a professor’s assistant at the Baghdad University. Linda and her family moved to the United States in 1999.

Dr. Shafik’s education includes a Master’s degree, achieved in 1993, where she was first in her class in dental school at the University of Baghdad out of 160 graduates in the country. After moving to the United States, she attended dental school for a second time at the University of Southern California to seek her DDS degree 2002-2004. After graduating, Linda practiced cosmetic dentistry in Beverly Hills, CA in 2004-2005.

Dr. Shafik is a licensed DDS in the State of North Carolina and California, as well as a member of The American Dental Association, The North Carolina Dental Society, Wake County Dental Society and The Seattle Study Club.

With the attitude of always going above and beyond to make sure patients feel comfortable, Dr. Shafik believes in treating her patients like family. She is very personable and takes extra care and time with patients to ensure they form a bond of trust.

When Linda is not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons. She enjoys swimming, walking and is an excellent Mediterranean cook. She deems her family and being a mom as her biggest accomplishment. Linda states, “My family has worked hard and struggled to make it where we are today. We have been through a lot and our proudest moment together was taking the oath to become an American Citizen.”

Shirin Mashhoon D.D.S Knightdale, Zebulon, Cary, Clayton, Benson, NCShirin Mashhoon D.D.S

Dr. Mashhoon received her Undergraduate Degree from State University of New York at Buffalo, Summa Cum Laude, majoring in Biochemical Pharmacology. She received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 2005 from SUNY at Buffalo with a minor in Periodontalogy.

Dr. Mashhoon spent two summers working in research at the National Institute of Health in Maryland and at the Department of Oral Biology at SUNY at Buffalo with the latter resulting in research publication. She continued her dental education following dental school by attending a one-year General Practice Residency Program at Bronx VA Hospital and completed a second year residency at Carolina’s Medical Center in Charlotte.

Presently, Dr. Mashhoon works as a full-time clinician and also serves as a part-time instructor at UNC Department of Diagnostic Sciences and General Dentistry.
In addition, Dr. Mashhoon is an active member of the Rotary International and has served as Chair of the International Committee at her Rotarty Club for two years. She is involved in service projects in developing countries including water projects, health related issues, and dentistry. She continues to treat underserved patients in developing countries and regions. One of her most rewarding experiences has been spending one month in the Amazon in 2007. She served in Honduras and Nicaragua in 2012. Dr. Mashhoon takes pride in making dental brigades an important part of her professional life.
